Pastor Lloyd’s Message: “Jesus’ Last Words: Thirsty?”

Scripture: John 19:28-30

Sermon Outline:

Thesis:  The fifth saying from the Cross is the word of physical torment – “I thirst.”  It is not only a description of Jesus’ physical thirst but also an acknowledgement of Jesus’ spiritual thirst and desire to be in the Presence of His Father.

A. Jesus’ spiritual thirst – Which Old Testament Scripture was Jesus fulfilling?

  1. Psalm 69:21 – “. . . and gave me vinegar for my thirst.”
  2. Psalm 42:1,2 – “My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.”
  3. Psalm 63:1 – “I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you.”

B. What are some of the things that we try to substitute for our thirst for God?

  1. Wrong Relationships
  2. Wrong Lifestyle
  3. Wrong Purpose in Life

C. Conclusion:  The Touch of the Master’s Hand by Myra Brooks, 1921.
