Lent I

“It’s God’s Kingdom!”

Mark 4:26-29

Three Observations about this Parable:

A. The Kingship of God – Mark 4:26a

1. The “Kingdom” of God is the “Kingship” of God.

B. The Role of the “Man” – Mark 4:26b, 29

C. The only role of the “man” is at the beginning and the end of the process – sowing and harvesting.

1. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up

2.Though he does not know how

3.All by itself, the soil produces grain

4.All by itself, the soil produces grain Presence and Power of the Creator-God.

D. Application – Three Pictures

1.A Picture of Life – There’s a time to let go and just let life look after itself.

2.. A Picture of the Spiritual Life – Jesus says,  I’m Sovereign.  I’m the King.  I know the future because I am the Future.”

3. . A Picture of the End of the Age – “. . . the harvest has come” – cf. Joel 3:13a

E.Conclusion – It’s God’s Kingdom.  He’s the King!
